Tales from the Loop (Original Soundtrack)

One of the things that stuck out as I watched the show was the beautiful music that accompanied it. I’m a huge fan of movie and TV scores and this one really captures the feeling from the show. It’s also really great to listen to while working from home

The music to this show is beautiful.

This score has Philip Glass’ name attached to it. I would quickly agree with most that Glass has produced lots of beautiful music. However, I’ve noticed that he tends to struggle with diversity in his music. Though beautiful, a lot of what I’ve heard from him, often sounds the same and very familiar.

While watching this show, I couldn’t help but think of how familiar the main theme is. On this album, we hear it in the song “Walk to School”, and it sounds a lot like “Raising the Sail” and “Dreaming of Fiji”, from “The Truman Show” soundtrack.

It’s true that this entire score carries a consistent mood, just like the show. However, its consistency is also a strength, and the songs are diverse enough to make the whole album enjoyable. There was no need for me to make a shorter playlist of the songs that I like, because all of the songs are good.

I particularly like “Last Forever”. It’s quickly becoming one of my favorites.
